Lazy Bugs

What if there are imaginary bugs, which live by feeding on the laziness of people.
These Lazy Bugs try hard to find food – your kid’s and YOUR LAZINESS!

These Lazy bugs always live with a lazy family who feed them well every day.
Watch out for these Lazy Bugs because THEY ARE LOOKING FOR YOUR FAMILY’S LAZINESS TOO!
Ironically they are VERY DILIGENT to find their food ….

Naming of Lazy Bugs

I named these imaginary bugs 5 MIMUTE BUGS when I started writing this story because I always say “Can I have five more minutes?” when my son and wife wake me up on Sundays. That’s why these bugs look like the number 5 and five fingers. When I first read this story to my son, however, he didn’t understand the concept of time. He kept asking me “What’s 5 minutes?”, “Is it bigger than yesterday or tomorrow?”…. I had to rename the bugs so that even little kids could understand them. The final name LAZY BUGS came up because it sounds more imaginary and is pronounced somewhat like my favorite bug, Lady Bugs.

Author’s Note

Lazy Bugs occurred to me when I was telling my son that we should work hard to make a good living. Lazy Bugs live on laziness, but ironically enough, they have to be diligent to find their food.

I’ve been a quite lazy person myself. Looking back, I was always lazy about chores except for the things I wanted to do. Then one day, when I saw that same laziness in my son, I was devastated. He had naturally absorbed my laziness by watching me.

Lazy Bugs is a confession of my bad habits to my son. It is also my prayer for healthier habits in the future. Maybe my son is too young to understand the concept of laziness. But I hope he realizes that what Lazy Bugs love to eat is a bad habit, and he will only be happy if he is diligent.

One of the things this has made me think about a bit is the role of deihlgt in God’s relationship with us. I am reminded again (via Justin) just how powerful the feelinug of sheer deihlgt is in my children. Sure I encourage them to do stuff, to excel and do their best, but I hope I also communicate to them that I simply deihlgt in being with them, enjoying who they are.good thoughts
